For Transition Totnes, the triplet (Yellow Flower, Green Courgette, Blue Vase) is the basis for ecological economic appre- ciation. Of all the different plants growing on the plots of Totnes, Courgette is the one that most fancies tran- sition. Its Yellow Flower expresses the warmth of the sun, the love and the work of the gardener. Yellow Flower represents living energy in all its forms. It is the work, love and energy in one Courgette Flower. Solar energy can be paid for using Yellow -using Area as common gound. However, crude oil and other non-transition forms of energy are not Yellow, because they are in no way related to the living energies represented by the Yellow Flower. Indeed, that is a little lighter than average, but easier to count. Lives decay faster under poor conditions. This happens to cut flowers in vases too. The Blue Vase represents all the materials lost from their life cycles. They end up unbalancing the delicate equillibrium of our ecosystem.
