Why Rackspace for OpenStack
We make OpenStack SIMPLE
We eliminate complexities by delivering OpenStack “as a service” and backing it with an industry-leading 99.99% uptime SLA.
5
Our Customers: (And some of them are real partners.)
6
Back To OpenStack…..•How many Nodes do you Run ?– 1 (All-in-one)– 10– 100– 1000 (Also for you !!!! Ask me after the presentation )– +10.000 (I have to stop here from Finance ….)
7
So how do we do this ?
8
OpenStack is complex: (sorry, it is.)
9
Rules and Guidelines. • If it does not run a production workload it does not make money.• The world of 9-to-5 doesn’t exist.– So everything needs 24/7 support, be prepared.
• Don’t reinvent the wheel. (But improve with feedback and code)• Scale matters• Know the difference between Pets and Cattle. (Workload)– So everybody knows that Cattle has rights too.. (HA is important.)
• A dedicated team is a must.– (May be the best kept secret in the world …)
10
We don’t want to create this …..
11
But This

bonded uplink connectivity.
• Available for customers hosting their private cloud with Rackspace in the US, UK and ….
6x F06D (24 Nodes)
2x E5-2660v3256GB DDR4-2133QCT/LSI 3008 HBA6x 960GB SSD4x 10G NIC (X520)
2x Nexus 9372PX1x WS C2960X-24-TD-L

Or more specific ……
14
And only l ike this…..Small, medium and LARGE
15
Best Practices.• Configurations, not Customizations.– Standard building blocks, and properly configured, suit 99% of the
needs.• Try to patch more then a 100 clouds on a night when every one is
different• Make OpenStack consumable in an easy way to your (internal)
customers.• Kiss, Don’t make it to difficult. • Never forget the workload.• Step-by-Step• Sometimes two clouds are better than one (test, production etc..)
16
Frank’s tips …. But shoot me and your questions …• If you want to start/continue with OpenStack …
• Qualify your organization, team and yourself (Are you ready for OpenStack ?)• Learn the architecture but not the details.• Why OpenStack? Devops ? Workload ? A complete Vmware migration ?• Be open to learn and change
• Again Workload is important, and yes some pets work nice on OpenStack
• People are the most important. • Always work with a partner… And focus on your core business.
• (A good one adds value and not a lock-in.. And we also have partners ……)
