What Are SitemapsAnd how to create one

•Sitemaps allow a webmaster to let a search engine know what URLs are on

a website.

•Of course each URL has valuable information like your page name, and links

to other important content on your site.

•Internet search engines are also able to know when content is added,

deleted, and updated.

•Essentially it allows a crawler to search the domain more efficiently.

•Here are a few examples when a sitemap is especially important

•Some areas of the website are not viewable

•Your website uses AJAX or Flash

•The site is large and a lot of content is created daily

•A website has few external links

Yoast SEO Plugin SettingsWhat is what

•Make sure the first checkbox is always selected

•The “XML Sitemap” button will show you the current sitemap

•It is advised to keep the disable author/user sitemap box selected

•This will not show your username in the sitemap for security

•In general settings select if you want to inform “ping” yahoo and ask every

time a new post is created

•Exclude post types will not place certain types of content in your sitemap.

This might be ideal if you create and delete certain types of posts often or

don’t want them to be ranked.

•Once the settings are configured click save and go back to the top and

select the XML Sitemap button. This is what you will submit to Google
