DESCRIPTION

In this Solid Edge hands-on session, we will take a look at some of the new tools offered in ST4 draft environment. These tools include formatting Parts lists by merging cells, splitting cells, aspect ratio, rotating cells and adding multi-line titles. Balloons can now be stacked balloons for Fastener Systems to improve the look of the drawing.

Key Takeaways:

We recognize drawings are a key deliverable for most engineers, and our

goal since Solid Edge Version 1 has been to reduce drawing production time

and create world class drawings.

Adding jogs to projection lines is limited to the following dimension types:

Linear Dimensions

Symmetrical Diameter Dimensions

Circular Diameter Dimensions (2 Projection Lines)

3D Dimensions in isometric views do not allow jogs

Supported in Draft, Sketch, and PMI dimensions

Hatch Rib in Section View

Solid Edge Options - Enable/Disable the creation of hatch in ribs cut in section

views

Option can be set to Hatch or No Hatch

Hatch – Ribs are considered part of the primary body and are cut along with

the primary body

No Hatch – Ribs are considered

to be a separate body

Ribs are pulled off of the

primary body and cut separately

Hatch Ribs – Criteria for Rib

Processing

The following rules apply to hatching and not hatching ribs:

Not hatching ribs applies to section, revolved section, and broken out section

drawing views

A rib is added to the list of ribs for possible inclusion in the non-hatch

processing when the following criteria are met:

A segment of a cutting plane must intersect the rib.

The normal cutting of the rib would produce

a hatched face in the section view.

Hatch Ribs – Broken out

Section

Broken Out Section views have special considerations as follows:

The Broken Out Section profile must be on the same view as the cut is

applied.

Multiple cutouts can be made on a single drawing view. The hatch/non-hatch

display of a rib is the same and is controlled collectively across multiple

cutouts.

Conclusions

As with all Solid Edge releases, a strong focus is placed on increasing usability

of the 2D drafting tool. Solid Edge drawings are compliant with industry

standards, but you have complete control over drawing view, dimensions, and

annotations characteristics to accommodate specific company or customer

needs. Solid Edge Draft is a complete world-class drafting tool designed to

build drawings the way a company needs to work.
