you and Asia are on opposite sides of the

earth. When your side of theEarth faces the Sun,

Asia is facing away from theSun.

Earth's Rotation

The earth rotates around the sun The moon moves, or orbits, around the earth.

The amount of light and warmth a planet receives depends

on how far it is from the sun.

Shadows

Have you ever made a shadow puppet?

oA Shadow forms when light is blocked.

oThe light strikes an object but cannot pass through.

You cast a shadow when your bodyblocks the sunlight. Your shadow alwayspoints away from the sun. As the positionof the sun changes, your shadow changes

too!Early in the morning, your shadow is long.

Itshrinks until midday. Then it grows longer

again until sunset.

What Causes Seasons?

oThe earth rotates around its axis.

oIt also revolves around the sun.

oRevolution is when one object travels around another.

oThe path a revolving objects takes is its orbit.

oEarth's orbit i shaped like an ellipse, or flattened circle.

oEarth's orbit around the sun takes 365 1 days, or one year.
