The Sicarii

Who were they?
They were a group of extremists Zealots from Jerusalem, which existed before the destruction of the Temple.
Sicarii literally means “dagger men”. These daggers were called sicae, and hid them underneath their cloaks. They would use these daggers to murder Romans or roman sympathizers.
Freedom fightersThe Sicarii saw themselves as freedom fighters against Roman rule in Judea.
Freedom Fighter: people who are using physical force in order to cause a change in the political and or social order.
They tried to participate in the resistance at Masada, but arrived too late.
Class Activity:
Use the worksheet to create a poster supporting or asking for support for the Sicarii. Make them look like brave freedom fighters!
