Covering Today • As valuable and innovative as an intranet can

be in the workplace, it's not an invulnerable

platform.

• Threats like malware, phishing, spyware, and

Trojan Horses are a constant security threat.

• Here are a few ways to ensure your

company's digital defenses are fortified.

Passwords…It may seem like an obvious choice, but ensuring you have a strong password is a crucial element to keeping your work accounts safe. Using a variety of capital letters and numbers like many sites suggest is one way of doing this, but a more efficient and advanced approach is password protection.

Savvy digital workers use different passwords for each account, and make cryptic, random passwords that are a series of jumbled characters. By keeping your passwords multifaceted and obscure, hackers will have a much more difficult time getting access to your account.

What About The Cloud? The cloud is a very popular way to make project information easy to access for everyone, but even with its nebulous nature it is susceptible to security breaches as well. A recent poll showed that only 13% of users trust their cloud providers to secure sensitive data. This fear isn't unwarranted, as hackers always have the potential to launch DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, one of the most common threats in the digital space today.

These attacks make a network inaccessible to its users by shutting it down with a flood of fake accounts all trying to access the page at once. The Cloud Security Alliance recommends having cloud service distributors communicate with company administrators to have a plan in case of such attacks.

While most threats come from people far away, attacks from insiders are also common within your workplace. By keeping regulations on how much access users have, authorities can help mitigate this issue. It’s also a good idea to promptly disable the accounts of former employees, who may want to take your private company information to competitors.

Don’t Forget Insiders!

Security & LiveTiles The Sharepoint platform has a variety of strong security measures built in to help mitigate risks and manage potential security threats in the system. One such security precaution is the ability to instate permission levels, where administrators can assign users a certain amount of restricted access, ranging from read-only content to site theme development.

Giving your users different responsibilities between the sites and sub-sites of SharePoint gives everyone a specialized role and helps foster a digital workplace free of distrust. Through its ease of use, LiveTiles builds on SharePoint's foundation and brings these security features to the forefront of its intranet system.
