Issues and Objectives
• Electricity production is the main objective of hydropower reservoirs and the most lucrative use of the reservoir water.
• Other uses can have important values for local communities and local economic development
• A rapid scoping approach is proposed for identifying the multiple use potential of new and existing hydropower schemes
Assess Potential Downstream Irrigation Area using a combination of GIS and Land Use Suitability Model (LUSET)
Assess Use of Drawdown area for developing recession agriculture
Assess Potential for Tourism and recreational value in Cambodia
Fisheries management center in Nam Ngum reservoir in Lao PDR
Multiple Use System
• This approach helps to evaluate a rapid selection of the most appropriate use(s) for each reservoir and catchments.
• Multiple Use Topic Working Group in IFWF3 would help to define more precisely our methodology and approach for developing a rapid scoping for multiple use of water in hydropower reservoirs.
