DESCRIPTION
Scatol8 SmartGarden3.0 is a wireless sensor network, able: - to detect temperature and humidity of the air and luminosity; - to detect temperature and moisture of the soil; - to do continuous shooting video and taking photos with a webcam; - to display the data on the dashboard locally and through the web; - to determine light sequences with variable intensity, in relation to the activities carried out; - to draw a wide range of virtual landscapes, depending on the intensity of the variables …

Scatol8® SmartGarden 3.0
- Let’s take the stock of the situation -
by Riccardo Beltramo (invention, concept definition, design and implementation) Paolo Cantore (hardware, software and construction)
Stefano Duglio (construction) Marta Lanfranco (design, rendering and construction)
Bear in mind... Scatol8® is focused on this path:
ModularityThe Network Scatol8® is made up of several elements:
sensors
peripheral units
coordinator
PC (Dashboard)
Internet connection
The network is made up of modules, which are composed of different elements, in relation to different situations.
Bear in mind...
Demonstrators
• are simplified models of the system Scatol8®
• reproduce in small-scale elements, architecture and functionalities of a network Scatol8®
Bear in mind...
Scatol8® SmartGardenThis demonstrator was prepared
for the conference “Nutrirsi di Paesaggio," organized in Turin on June, 4th 2012. Presented in a paper entitled “Environmental & Landscape Management System into a SMART reality: the evolution impressed by Scatol8® for Sustainability", it was able of: • Detect temperature and
humidity and luminosity; • Detect soil moisture; • Take photos with a webcam; • View the data on Crusc8
(Dashboard); • Vary the light intensity as a
function of the variables.
Bear in mind...
Scatol8® SmartGarden3.0has been launched in Turin, on May 2014, during the International Book Fair 2014, in the TOSM corner “Technological landscapes 3.0”. It is able: • to detect temperature and humidity
of the air and luminosity; • to detect temperature and moisture
of the soil; • to do continuous shooting video
and taking photos with a webcam; • to display the data on the dashboard
locally and through the web; • to determine light sequences with
variable intensity, in relation to the activities carried out; and........
... And to draw a wide range of virtual landscapes, depending on the intensity of the variables …Here are a few examples:
Scatol8® SmartGarden3.0 follows the guidelines of Scatol8®:
• Green:
✴ the main body is made of plywood;
✴ the supports were obtained from a stainless steel bar recovered;
✴ the spacers are made of plastic caps.
• Modularity:
✴ type and number of sensors vary according to the requirements of use;
✴ type and number of units can be varied at pleasure, depending on the surface and the morphology of the garden, creating a wireless sensor network.
• Accessibility:
✴ Technical drawings for the construction of the structure, wiring diagrams, and software will be downloadable from "Scatol8®: A Path To Sustainability" - the Fourth Edition, to be published
✴ microprocessors are opensource
✴ sensors and actuators are available in the electronic marketplace
Scatol8® SmartGarden3.0• is intended for:
✴ Landscape architects and agronomists who wish to provide a service for monitoring and maintenance of the gardens that design and create, available in their offices or via smartphone;
✴ Gardening enthusiasts who want to be sure of the state of health of their green space, even when they are away from home, via the web;
✴ All those who want to integrate their garden irrigation system with a new functionalities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the system.
Scatol8® won the “Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck Award” at the 2014 ICT&Consumer electronics International Exhibition (SMAU) in Turin
