What are the Facts
What are the Trends
Every Company has to understand their:
• Mobile Management Style (IT)
• Differences in Demographics (HR)
• Security and Privacy posture (Security)
Most companies fall into one of four mobile management styles.
1. Control-oriented Goal: Quality, Security, Support, Cost
2. Choice-oriented Goal: User satisfaction
3. Innovation-oriented Goal: Empower the user
4. Hands-off Goal: Transfer the responsibility of mobile services

Mobile Management Style (IT)
Young Workers:
◦ have the expectation that they will have access to the same tools they have at home at work.
◦ are Technologically Savvy.
◦ are Always connected from a communications and Social media perspective.
◦ have stated that they consider Employers with an open standard around devices as Employer’s of Choice.
◦ 40% of young workers have said they are willing to accept a lower-paying job that had more flexibility with regard to device choice & social media.

Difference in Demographics (HR)
We have to accept that Security Departments have different objectives than the rest of the company.
◦ The most secure state for a device is off.◦ The objective for a security department is to make the device
resemble that state as much as possible.◦ Failing the above, it is about protecting information.
The security posture is about protecting data and mitigating data loss.
◦ There is a balance between policy and technological controls.

What are the Industry Trends
• Where did this industry come from?
• What is an MDM and who has it?
• Who pays for it?
Where did this Industry come from?
Every Company should understand that they are in “perfect storm” conditions right now:
• New Industry
• New Vendors
• New Screens & Context
What is an MDM and who has it?
MDM= Mobile Device Management= The reason why corporations trust their data on a Mobile Device
Enterprise Mobile Market share: Source trak.in
Who pays for BYOD?
• Over 60% of companies at least pay for some portion of BYOD.
• MDM solutions (Access to Data)
• Data Plans (Access to Network)
• Stipends (Device)
Conclusions It is harder for IT and Security, but:
◦ It is a capability – People who do not justify the expense could still have access to the capability.
◦ It is an industry that your company probably wants to be part of – It could improve the bottom line.
◦ The MDM is no longer unique – RIM is no longer special
◦ Young workers cannot be understood … I mean they have different requirements.
