INTRODUCTION

In the European Teacher Diversity course held in Riga the topics developed were :

• Cartoons• Music and Dance.• Languages

All the teachers had to decide the topic they wanted to work on.

Our group-work was: • Duygu Adali from Bursa, Turkey• Núria Biosca from Catalonia• M.José de Haro from Catalonia• Manuela Moledo from Catalonia

We chose Music and Dance.

DESCRIPTION• The teachers in charge of the group gave us some instructions to help us to

develop the project. Among the participants in the group we did some research in order to find similarities between the two cultures .

• We prepared a Power Point to show the results of our work.

• First of all, we introduced the geographical features, languages, population and religion of the two countries. Then, we looked for different dances and we chose the ones that had got more similarities. These are Hallay from Turkey and Sardana from Catalonia, we realised that the instruments played with the dances are also similar.

• The following step was the description of the dances and their origin.

• We always focused on the similarities

GOALS• To choose different cultures.

• To look for information

• To compare different cultures and find similarities.

• To make a presentation

• To show respect to others

ACTIVITIES• Show the power point prepared in Riga where we compare

Catalonia/Turkey.

• We describe the different parts of the presentation.

• We explain to the students that they should prepare a similar task comparing two countries or regions of Spain according to their interests. They can work individually ,in pairs, or small group.

• They do the research and show the results either in mural format or ICT form (Power Point or others).

• Show and Tell. They explain their task and show the research to their classmates, with the support of different materials (murals, clothing, coins, postcards,..).

• Share the feelings among countries and reflect on their similarities,

Catalan project

EVALUATION

• This Project helped us and our students be aware of the amount of similarities we can find among different cultures and countries.

• This Project gave to the newcomers the opportunity to rise their self- esteem and self-confidence. At the same time to be proud of their origins.

• This Project also allowed the students to use English in a meaningful context.

• The Music is an International Language that helps people get together and find ancestral roots.
