This power point slide shows the life of the people living back in the Islands and the adventures they face. • The invention of the Fa’ataupati was in the 19th Century believed to be created from the invasion of Mosquitoes. The slapping effect was then to have led to the sasa.

The Fa’ataupati (“pha.cow.pati”) is traditionally performed by men who are shirtless.

• The Fa’ataupati is one of the world’s most energetic dances and is gaining popularity outside of Samoa.

• The main way to present a Samoan piece is by singing in groups, quartets or even in a church Choir. The parts are split in the normal part; Soprano, Alto; Tenor and Base.

• The art of music in Samoa helps people reflect the emotions of mourning, happiness and also for the Glory of God.

• Samoan Instruments include: A hallowed out log (Pate’) And a Rolled out mat (Fala)

• Samoan Music is slowly alternating into the more modern phase of music Inc. Pop and a use of Hawaiian Reggae.

• Samoan Music is unanimously inspired by the strong belief of Christianity.

• The most common form of Art used in Samoa is called the Tatau-Samoan Tattoo.

• The Samoan Art includes Tattoo, Carvings and also Tapa ware. The Carvings that they make is commonly known as the Ava for traditional ceremonies.

• The Tatau is a Samoan Tradition because it indicates that a boy has become a man. The Malu is the female version of a Tatau, only does it represent peace keeper.

• The most celebrated event in Samoa is Samoan Independence Day.

• The Samoan Independence Day was declared on the 1st of January 1962, but is celebrated on the 1st of June.

• When celebrations are held, the formal way of celebrating them in Samoa are by performing the Siva and having lots of food.

• The most religious celebration is the Christian Festival, this celebrates the importance of Christianity behaviour on the island of Samoa.

• Food is a big part of the Samoan Life, and involves many celebrations to be able to identify the true taste of Samoa.

Samoan Food is not seasoned or spices, but it does contain certain ingredients that make our food a unique success. These ingredients include:

Pe’epe’e Coconut Cream Taro/Taro leaves.

• The most traditional way to cook Samoan Food is by starting up an Umu. The Umu is the Samoan Version for a Hangi. This is how you start an Umu:

Ignite the fire needed to start the Umu. Place stones around it, in order to conduct heat. Once cooled, place food on it and then cover it with

frond Taro Leaves.

• When eating, the elders must always be served first; while the kids serve them. This is a sign of respect.

• The Ava Ceremony is one of the most important ceremonies in all of Samoa.

• The Ava Ceremony is a celebration of arriving parties, departing parties and the earning of a Matai (Chiefs Title)

• White Sunday is a tradition in Samoa which is a holiday that falls on the 2nd Sunday Of October.

• All women, men and children dress completely in white, and this is to acknowledge the childhood of every youth in the Church. (Ekalesia)

• Samoa includes 9 inhabited Islands on-top of a Mountain Range.

• The Largest Islands Include:

Savai’i – 703sq miles. 1820 sq. km Upolu - 430sq miles. 1114 sq. km

• The Capital, Apia, sits on the Island of Upolu. This is aggregated by 13 villages.

Total: 2,944 sq km Land: 2,934 sq km Water: 10 sq km

• Samoa’s Climate is tropical all year round with 2 main seasons.

• Dry seasons run from May to October.

• The average daily temperature is 28 degrees Celsius, with ocean temperature in the low 20’s.

• The effects of having tropical weather can cause the day and night to have the same period length.

• During the period of May and November the temperature can be quite cooler, because of South East Wind Trades.
