What is a Router??Arouter,is anetworking devicethat forwardsdata packetsbetweencomputer networks. Routers perform the "traffic directing" functions on theInternet. A data packet is typically forwarded from one router to another through the networks that constitute the internet until it reaches its destination node.

How does a Router work??

iINTERNETRoutingis the process of forwarding IP packets from one network to another. A router is a device that joins networks together androutestraffic between them.A router will have at least two network cards (NICs), one physically connected to one network and the other physically connected to another network. A router can connect any number of networks together providing it has a dedicated NIC for each network.

Why do people use Routers??

Every device on the Internet needs a unique IP address. Your ISP provides you with one, allowing one device to access the Internet. A router will access the Internet through that IP address, then provide local IP addresses--not visible on the Internet--for the PCs and other devices connected to it. This allows you to access the Internet from multiple computers through one connection. Every device on the Internet needs a unique IP address.
