BRAC & the APG CommunityBRAC & the APG Community
"BRAC" is an acronym for base realignment and closure. It is the process DoD has previously used to reorganize its installation infrastructure to more efficiently and effectively support its forces, increase operational readiness, and facilitate new ways of doing business. DoD anticipates that BRAC 2005 will build upon processes used in previous BRAC efforts
Chesapeake Science & Security Corridor ConsortiumA regional approach for community outreach to define the process, assess the impact, and collaborate planning and implementation related to transportation, land use/infrastructure, workforce development and education.
What is What is uniqueunique about BRAC about BRACfor the APG community?for the APG community?
• "BRAC" is happening now; jobs are currently transitioning to APG – 350 jobs in place by Dec. 08– 900 jobs in 2009– 600-700 jobs in 2010; remainder in 2011
• A large influx of civilian personnel v. military personnel brings significant community growth impacts.
• A substantial contractor tail, potentially larger than the civilian employee influx, is anticipated to coincide.
What is What is uniqueunique about BRAC about BRACfor the APG community?for the APG community?
• Although transportation is a common priority among BRAC growth communities, northeast regional road network is less mature.
• APG is one of only two growth communities citing infrastructure as a critical need (water and sewer)
• CSSC already one of the fastest growing labor regions
