At the time of analyzing certificate you’ll come to know various details about SSL Certificate and for which company it is issued. This helps users to have trust about data transactions being done and ensures that the certificate is valid for the site. Steps to recognize the SSL Certificates • First of all double click on the SSL Certificate icon in the browser’s address bar that brings up a details window for the SSL Certificate installed. • When you click on General tab, you’ll see the general properties for the certificate such as the issuer that tells you the name of the company for which the certificate has been issued. SSL Certificates need renewal so a certificate is only valid for a certain period at-least one year. The Issuer is the licensed authority that sells encrypted SSL Certificate to website owners. The section provides the information whether the certificate is mis-configured or stolen. • To view more information about the certificate click on Details tab then subject row. Here row lists the Domain name and company location. Use this section to verify the information in the General tab. • When you click on Algorithm row, you can find the strength of the certificate’s encryption. For example 128-bit, 256-bit etc… • Finally when you click on Certificate Path tab it allows users to view any issues with the certificate.
