Ray tracing

• Steps in ray tracing1.Draw an arrow parallel to principal axis from

the tip of the object to the mirror, then reflect it passing at the focus.

2. Draw another arrow from the tip of the object to towards the mirror and passing through the focus of the mirror, then reflect the arrow parallel to the principal axis as it hits the

mirror

Ray tracing

3. The intersection between the two arrows is the location of the image. 4. The length of an arrow from the principal axis to its tip its size.

case 1. the object is away from the center of the mirror

Page 5: Ray tracing on curve mirrors

Analysis

When the object is away from the center the image is reduced and inverted.

Page 6: Ray tracing on curve mirrors

Case 2. the object is between the focus and the center of the mirror.

Page 7: Ray tracing on curve mirrors

Analysis

•When the object is between the focus and the center its image is inverted and enlarged

Case 3. the object is between the mirror and the focus

Page 9: Ray tracing on curve mirrors

Analysis

When the object is between the mirror and the focus , its image is upright and behind the mirror

Page 10: Ray tracing on curve mirrors

Case 4 The object is at infinity

Page 11: Ray tracing on curve mirrors

Analysis

When the object is at infinity its image is found at the focus of the mirror.

Case 5. The object is at the center

Page 13: Ray tracing on curve mirrors

Analysis

When the object is at the center of the mirror, its image is found at the center and is inverted.

Case 6. the object is at the focus

Page 15: Ray tracing on curve mirrors

Analysis

When the object is at the focus of the mirror its image is found at infinity.
