Evaluation! In what way does my media product developor challenge forms and conventions of a real

magazine?

Page 2: Question 1

The genre I chose was hard to challenge the conventions of a magazine because I think when addressing a young female teenage audience you must be careful with how you challenge the forms and conventions of a pop magazine. This is because if I had of challenged the forms and conventions then my magazine would not have been successful. On the next page you can see the forms and conventions of a real magazine that my front cover has.

My magazine is aimed at teenage girls this is shown by the models that I used in my magazine. The images challenge the forms and conventions because the girls are not implying a sexual appeal to the audience although there are certain elements of the photographs which would imply this. You would find that many teenage girl magazines do imply a sexual appeal. My magazine keeps the sexual appeal to the minimum and dressing them in white implies clean innocent girls. It also challenges the conventions because the girls are all different shapes and sizes and the clothes they are wearing do not Imply wealth or materialism. On the other hand the image also fits into the conventions because the models are all taking different poses and the shots are taken in a studio, like many images on magazines. I kept this throughout my media product.

CHALLENGING THE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS THROUGH MY IMAGES

Page 5: Question 1

I selected a font that connoted a girly playful image and I used it for the master head. I chose this font because It included hearts and this is what you would usually find in a magazine of this genre. This font fits in with the forma and conventions of a girly pop magazine because it is pink and bold.

The colours I used are bright and they also connote fun and excitement, I chose to use different sizes of fonts to fit in with the forms and conventions of a real pop magazine. They stand out and appear boldly on my front cover. This looks like the font you would expect to see on a real magazine because it has elements of sans serif and serif fonts. I included screamers and puffs to fit in with the forms and conventions of a magazine.

FONTS AND COLOURS…

Page 6: Question 1

I challenged the conventions of a teenage pop magazine by only including one image on my front cover, many of the magazines I researched had a lot of images on the front. Although I did not follow this idea I do not think that this effects my overall effect of my magazine.
