• Meet specific education and experience requirements

• Agree to adhere to a code of professional conduct

• Pass a multiple choice exam

Note: you don’t have to be a PMI member to become a PMP,

but you’re more than welcome to join!

PMP Eligibility Criteria

Category 1– candidate holds a bachelor's degree or equivalent

university degree

– minimum 4500 hours within the 5 process groups over a period of 3 – to 6 years

– 35 contact hours of Project Management Education

• questions are mostly situational, may have 2 correct answers, however looking for the best

Professional Development Program

• To keep certification, the PMP must maintain a given number Professional Development Units (PDU) each period (60 within 3 years)

• Renewal fee– $60 Members

– $150 Non-Members

• PDUs are granted through– ongoing education

• work with peers to discuss and work through problems

• peer pressure to maintain study schedule– study group will probably last 3 months (or more)

• large quantity of study material so certain study areas can be divided up among group members

• meet no less than once per week– plan for 2 hours per meeting– convenient time & location– no distractions

• plan for a minimum of 1 meeting per PMBOK section– 9 knowledge areas & intro, 12 weeks– add couple of more weeks for organization and

review

Roles and Responsibilities

• Devote time to yourself.• Willingness to learn and “stretch.”• Able to accept and give feedback.• Take initiative and be proactive in own exam

preparation. • Clarify the expectations of the mentoring partnership. • Develop a Mentoring Action Plan (MAP) with

mentor. • Maintain MAP and discuss progress with mentor.

Time Requirements

• Time Requirements:– a 3-10 month mentoring partnership.

• Each partnership will determine:– how much time is required to best meet the needs of the partners– and plan and schedule their time accordingly.

• Suggested that:– mentor/protégé(e) pairs meet face-to-face at least one hour every

month. – mentor/protégé(e) pairs will communicate in some way, e.g. a

phone call, email message, written note, etc. at least every two weeks.
