PRINTERPRINTER
IMPACT PRINTERSIn these types of printers, there is a
physical contact between the print head and paper.
They can be broadly divided into:- 1.Line printers 2.Character printers
LINE PRINTERS• Line printers print one line of text at a
time. Their speed varies from 300 to 3000 lines per minute. Examples are Drum printers and Chain printers.
• Drum printers : Consists of a cylindrical drum on which characters are embossed for each and every print position on a line.
• Chain printers : Has characters engraved in type assembly on a chain . The chain is rotated at high speed where characters are printed.
CHARACTER PRINTERS• Character printers print one character of text at
a time. They are slow printers with a speed of 30 to 600 per second. It is mainly of 3 types:
• Dot - Matrix : The printer head contains of vertical array of pins. As the head moves , selected pins fire against the ribbons . The more the pins it has a better quality.
• Quality printers : These printers are like the Dot – Matrix but it forms lines not dotes.
• Daisy wheel printers : The print head resembles the daisy flower . Its print arms are like the petals of the flower . The hub is continuously rotating and hammers at a appropriate time .Its speed is up to 90 units per second
NON – IMPACT PRINTERS
• Non impact printers use thermal, chemical, electrostatic, laser beam, or inkjet technology for printing. There is no physical contact between head and paper. They are faster than impact printers .
