Presidio’s Data Center Practice is focused on delivering Advanced Data Center Solutions for its customers. Server VirtualizationServer Virtualization is quickly becoming the de facto standard for the data center. The technology has enabled organizations to reduce the server sprawl that has overtaken the data center and has allowed them to get the most out of their technology invest-ments by increasing utilization. VMware’s vSphere (ESX 4.0) software has accelerated this momentum by increasing physical-to-virtual consolidation ratios and by providing new technologies like Fault Tolerance that provide no-hassle, zero-data-loss solutions in a virtual environment.
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)The popularity of server virtualization has created an equally compelling business case around desktop/laptop virtualization. With a greater number of desktops in comparison to servers, there is a larger opportunity to reduce cost and streamline management tasks. VMware’s View 3 (VDI) software introduced new technologies such as linked clones that allow organizations to save upwards of 80%-90% of the storage cost of a VDI deployment. By easing the manage-ment of desktop images and allowing access to these images even while disconnected from the network, View 3 has caused a resurgence in discussions around VDI.

Presidio is helping customers successfully deploy VDI infrastructure, leveraging core technologies from VMware, as well as complementary technologies such as Wyse thin clients.
Converged NetworksTo further simplify the Virtual Data Center, converged network technolo-gies have evolved leveraging 10Gb speeds. Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) are merging the functionality of Ethernet cards and FC/iSCSI HBAs into a single interface card running at 10Gb speeds. Rather than continuing to run with 4 or more interface cards per server, we can now leverage 2 CNAs and virtualize traffic across the redundant links. By combining CNA technology with Cisco’s Nexus product family, the number of cards and ports in the switch fabric are dramatically reduced.
Unified ComputingWith all the focus on network and storage technologies, the server platform is often overlooked. Much as VMware has abstracted the applications and operating systems from the server hardware, Cisco’s Unified Computing

Presidio’s Data Center Practice System (UCS) has removed the configuration settings and created truly stateless comput-ing. With all the talk about cloud computing Cisco’s UCS is actually delivering on it. The latest addition to the VDC stack is continuing to simplify the management and administration of the VDC by leveraging key technologies such as embedded management, unified connectivity (FCoE), extended memory support (384GB), and virtual adapters. Presidio is the first UCS partner in the Northeast.
StorageIn order to support the Virtual Data Center, Storage architectures need to be scalable, flexible, reliable, and easy to manage. Storage arrays need to support not just the standard connectivity options comprising of iSCSI, FC, NFS/CIFS, but also the connec-tivity options on the horizon like 8Gb FC and 10Gb Ethernet. Equally as important as connectivity are the varieties of disks that are supported. It’s no longer as simple as FC and SATA. Enterprise Flash Disks (EFDs) are dramatically altering the storage landscape. Software functionality like Virtual Provision-ing allows customers to simplify day-to-day
administration tasks by automating storage expansion as needed. EMC Storage arrays combine all of these advanced technologies in an easy-to- manage unit with an intuitive user inter-face. Presidio is certified across all areas of EMC Storage Infrastructure, and is the top partner in the Northeast.
Backup and RecoveryVirtualization is disruptive technology that forces us to rethink how we protect our data. The dirty little secret of all virtualization products is that eventually backup becomes a challenge. Organizations must now backup the same amount of data as before, but across fewer hardware resources, causing backup windows to creep over agreed-upon service levels. A next-generation backup strategy is needed to combat this challenge. Through a series of free assessments Presidio can identify what advanced technologies such as Data Deduplication, high-speed Virtual Tape Libraries, and Archive, can get those backup windows back in check.

EMC Velocity Solution CenterIn Woburn, MA, Presidio has built out the country’s first EMC Velocity Solution Center. It is a state-of-the-art lab with over $3 million worth of hardware and software. The VDC includes the entire EMC storage family of platforms (DMX, CLARiiON, Celerra, Centera) and Enterprise Flash Drives, VMware software (ESX 3.5, 4.0), Cisco storage and networking products (MDS, Nexus) as well as the Unified
