LOGLINE

Vinnie, a gambling man, loses everything after a poker game against the local heavies. Now in debt, will he pay in 48 hours?

OPENINGWe are shown a low lit back room of an old pub

We see a group of men playing poker

We see all players turn other there cards and our protagonist Vinnie loses everything

He gambles and plays his last hand to win his money back but this only lands him in more debt

The leader of the mafia wants to know when he is going to get his money.

He gives him 48 hours to get the money together

Two big bald guys carry him out to the back and through him out the door. Door gets slam shut , Vinnie lifts his head up off the pavement picks himself up and then we se him walking down the street. (dissolve shot) , in roll the opening credits….

LOCATION / EFFECTS

Back room of pub

Old pub (lots of local pubs around eg - Cannington

Dimmed lit back room of a pub, with a poker table in the center. There could be a light over the poker table.

Could start off Black and White and then fade to colour

CHARACTERS

Early British gangsters

Our protagonist Vinnie (late 20s/30s)

A gangster leader – sat at the poker table with a cigar in his mouth.

2 big muscular men. maybe bald, tattooed… these two men are just ‘black figures’ stood behind the main gangsta until the narrative hooks begin to kick in.

MUSIC

early British music , we would try to make it sound like its being played from a vinyl player.

This could begin at a higher volume and then lower as the characters begin talking

- David Hughes ‘the game’ is an example of the type of music we want throughout the opening scene.

PROPS/COSTUMES

Poker table / chips

Cigars

Weapons

Ideas for costume of the ‘gangstas’

Costumes would be mainly suits (usually black suits)

well dressed smart characters

WHAT HAPPENS?

Up to the middle : scenes of the first 24 hours finding people to see if he can borrow the money… go through jobs to gain money which never ends well. Gangsta confront him to threaten him again, they finalize the deadline to 6PM the next night. Finds a man in a far more severe situation than him who is an awful state.

The end : The main character and the man are confronted by the gangsters and the police arrive with a conviction for the gangsters, ends in a blood bath where the police and gangsters battle it out and the gang leader dies.
