Buongiorno, cari studenti, oggi imparerete due cose:

1 – i saluti the greetings

2 – La differenza tra “tu” e “Lei” the difference between informal “you” and polite “you”

Cominciamo dal numero 1, i saluti Let’s start with nr. 1, the greetings

In Italia, come in America, ci si saluta in diversi modi a seconda del momento della giornata, giorno, pomeriggio, sera o notte

e se si vuole essere cortesi o informali.

In Italy, as in the U.S., people greet each other in different ways depending on the moment of the day (morning, afternoon, evening, night) and whether they want to be polite or informal .

I saluti (greetings)

Per esempio, probabilmente sapete che “ciao” è un saluto informale, che va bene per gli amici. “Buongiorno” invece è cortese e formale.For example, you probably know that “ciao” is an informal greeting that is good with friends. “Buongiorno” is instead formal and polite

In inglese, “you” è l’unica parola per rivolgersi a una persona direttamente. In italiano invece abbiamo due parole che significano “you”.

E cioè: In English, “you” is the only word used to address a person directly. On the contrary, in Italian we have two words to say “you.” These words are:

Plus, there is a third one

-- voi for “you all,” both formal and informal. We’ll learn later about it

tu Which means “you” one person, informal , used with friends

Lei Which means “you” formal and polite, used with persons we don’t know or when we want to show respect. “Lei” is ALWAYS capitalized, like you were talking to….Your Majesty

L’esercizio chiede:“Come ci si saluta nei vari momenti della giornata? Completa la tabella, con il Lei e con il tu”. Dovreste sapere come rispondere a questo punto. Nella prossima slide c’è comunque la risposta.The exercise asks, “How do you greet people in the different times of the day? Complete the table with the ‘you polite’ and with the ‘you’ informal.” At this point, you should know how to answer. Anyway, you can find the answer in the next slide.

Con il “Lei”

Con il “tu”(But also for plural “voi” informal)

Probably with a sequence of music notes, but I think “ciao” or “buona sera” is fine too!
