The problem

• Low levels of early grade literacy on EGRA

• Lack of clear assessment structure and literacy benchmarks hinder monitoring and effective teaching.

• Challenge of more accurate and timely Khmer literacy assessment, and cost of printing and laminating test papers.

Ideas achieved

• Develop Khmer literacy app running on Android devices.

• 31 units aligned with the MoEYS grade 1 and 2 reading textbook and assessment benchmarks.

• 20 tablets provided to each project school’s library

• Attractive software engages children and parents

Thought it would be good to add this since you mention the devices in the next slide.

New ideas to achieve

• Digitize and automate MoEYS-approved literacy assessments developed under TRAC to make an assessment app

• Will help minimize teacher error and address limited teacher capacity.

• Further utilizes tablets already provided to TRAC pilot schools and increases teachers’ utilization of ICT

Can we put this even if they're not formally approved?

What do we need?

• Interested people to research, refine the idea, and develop a “ blueprint” for the app design of a Khmer automated literacy assessment using a user-centered approach

• Once designed, need a local app developer to build the app

Since this is a pitch, I think it would be useful to put the need for a local app developer later in the process: There might be some in attendance who would be interested in partnering. Thus, I removed the second bullet point you had included: "Produce a short report of the process, outcomes, and challenges, as well as recommendations for future steps to develop and deploy the app."
