With the largest enterprise and developer platform launch in Microsoft Corp.’s history,

featuring the unveiling of Windows Server 2008, Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and Microsoft

SQL Server 2008, many industry partners are increasingly aligning behind the new Windows

Server 2008 platform and perceiving opportunities for both their customers and businesses.

Microsoft has been working with the partner community to help plan, build, test and

deploy leading-edge solutions based on the Windows Server 2008 platform by providing early

access to code, training, testing and certification support. Recognizing the increased value to

their customers, hundreds of independent software vendors (ISVs) have demonstrated their

support for the upcoming Windows Server 2008 platform with the development of a wide variety

of business applications for industries, including accounting, commerce, engineering, financial

services, healthcare, retail and supply chain, based on the new offerings. Thousands more

industry partners continue to work with Microsoft on product testing and evaluation, and are

currently developing new applications, device drivers, services and solutions to help support

Windows Server 2008.

Microsoft software and hardware partners around the world have also been developing

solutions that take advantage of the new offerings. A list of vendors offering applications

certified for Windows Server 2008, or pledging to provide support for their applications on

Windows Server 2008, appears at the end of this document.

Partner Momentum Data

Approximately 80 software applications have achieved certification on Windows Server 2008, which represents a tremendous wave of ISV momentum that is five times the number of certified applications at launch compared with the Windows Server 2003 launch.

ISVs have pledged to support more than 500 applications on the new platform. Showing their support for the new releases, over 40 of those partners are participating in the 2008 Global Launch Wave event in Los Angeles.

Microsoft has conducted over 120 developer trainings and developer labs and trained over 2,000 ISV developers to help them take advantage of key features in Windows Server 2008.

Over 250 hardware devices and servers have earned qualification on Windows Server 2008, including servers from HP, Sun, IBM, Dell, FSC and Inventec ESC.

Windows Server Partner Program Data

To help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), independent hardware vendors

(IHVs), ISVs and other developers build solutions that IT professionals can deploy immediately

with confidence and to help ensure that their products take full advantage of the capabilities of

Windows Server 2008, Microsoft provided programs such as the Windows Software Logo

Program, which was completely redesigned to be more affordable, achievable and valuable for

ISVs and IT professionals. The program has two engagement tiers, “Works with” and “Certified

for.”

The “Works with Windows Server 2008” and its free supporting test tools help partners gauge application compatibility with the new platform.

The “Certified for Windows Server 2008” requirements include approximately 100 test cases that independently confirm an application’s compliance with best practices for compatibility, security, reliability and availability on the server operating system. The certification defines mission-critical, line-of-business applications that have passed Microsoft best practices for security, availability, reliability and windows fundamentals.

The Windows Server Early Access Program (EAP) began in April 2007 and was designed for leading ISV innovators who planned to have solutions certified on Windows Server 2008 by launch on Feb. 27, 2008. Over 850 ISVs and over 1,000 applications are enrolled in the Windows Server 2008 Software Logo EAP.

The Windows Server 2008 “Pledged Applications” Program is where ISVs can pledge application support for Windows Server 2008. To date, ISVs have pledged to support more than 500 applications on the new platform.

Metro Early Adoption Program. With this program, Microsoft has conducted over 120 developer trainings and developer labs, training over 2,000 ISV developers with a goal of ISVs shipping applications that take advantage of key features in Windows Server 2008.

Application Compatibility Labs

To help ISVs ensure the compatibility of their offerings with the requirements of

Windows Server 2008, Microsoft hosted over 85 Application Compatibility labs. Workshops

were held around the world including Beijing; Bangalore, India; Boston; Hyderabad, India;

London; Mountain View, Calif.; Sydney, Australia; and multiple workshops and labs at various

Microsoft Technology Centers as well as at the company’s corporate headquarters in Redmond,

Wash.

Analyst Data

According to IDC*, every $1 spent by a customer on Windows Server 2008 and

Windows Vista software drives another $18 in partner revenue. The firm further estimates that in

2008, in the United States alone, this will equate to a $120 billion (U.S.) partner revenue

opportunity on 3.5 million Windows Server 2008 installations.
