DESCRIPTION
Oracle Database Appliance is an engineered system that is geared towards Small and Medium businesses but has all the bells and whistles for enterprise deployments. This talk will focus on Oracle Database Appliance deployment as a consolidation platform as well as as a development platform for rapidly deploying databases. We will talk about the Deployment process , the patching process and the best practices built into The Oracle Database Appliance. We will also talk about the DBA's role for managing the ODA as well as security considerations

Deployment
Each physical server has a Server node as well as an
ILOM
Hardware as well as Software Decisions need to be made
before the deploymentPre-deployment Work
Integrated Lights Out Management
Integrated Lights Out Management (ILOM) – starting point for
deployment
Can be accessed remotely if you have a
KVM or locally via a serial connector
Can use any terminal emulator that support
serial connection(Putty works well also)
Configuration can be done via the oakcli deployment
process or for faster access ILOM can be preconfigured
with a public IP
NOTE: Remember 2 ILOM’s!
Set /SP/network can be used to set network IP’s
DeploymentServers can be
accessed via each ILOM using the web
or ssh
The Remote Control Tab can open a
remote session into the server
After a remote session is established, the hosts will need to be IP’ed
using oakcli command set
It is important to ensure that software
installed meets requirements
Patch or Bare metal Prior to
Deploy
Allow for VNC server setup
Execute deployment
process
Deployment Process
Create OS users
Create the 3
Diskgroups
Install the
Database & GI
Software
Install and
configure ASR
Create a database and setup
ACFS filesystem if selected
Deployment takes approximately 40mins-60mins
