Developing Courseware

According to Rowntree the systems approach should incorporate four basic strands:

• Identify course aims and objectives• Develop necessary learning experiences• Evaluate the effectiveness of learning

experiences• Improve the experiences in the light of

evaluation.

Moodle

• Moodle is a Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

• It is a Free web application that educators can use to create effective online learning sites. Moodle can be installed on any computer that can run PHP, and can support an SQL type database .

• It can be run on Windows and Mac operating systems and many flavors of linux

Features of Information Literacy Courseware for Student Teachers

• Students can create their own login accounts. Email addresses are verified by confirmation.

• Teachers can create courses, teach in them. Typically, a teacher has full control over all settings for a course.

• Students can participate and view activites uts not create them.

• Guests are view only users. • Teachers and Students can be placed in one or

more Groups.

• The chat module allows smooth text interaction.• Different types of forum are available and

discussions can be viewed nested. • Courses can be categorised and searched - one

Moodle site can support thousands of courses• It promotes a social constructionist Pedagogy

(collaboration, activities, critical reflection, etc).

Conclusion

• Open source LMS especially Moodle includes many features that improve pedagogical quality many needed tools that an e learning should have. Moodle has superior rate of usability, a wider range of user authentication options, ease of installation and maintenance. Technology plays a key role in ensuring that lifelong learning programs are easy to use, convenient, and effective.
