Statement of Project & Product Features



Context

There are several commercial and open

source drawing tools. Some of them are

integrated into word processing and

presentation tools. Some are very

advanced and sophisticated drawing and

picturing systems. However, none of

them are as quick and convenient as

sketching & writing on paper or

whiteboard.

The Need

So, there is a need for a drawing tool

that is fast, flexible and easy-to-use as

sketching & writing and yet is capable of

producing high quality diagrams.

The Tool

Online Sketching to Drawing Tool,

OSDT.

OSDT is a combination of hardware

devices and software that enables

quick and easy sketching & writing

and converts them in to editable

professional quality drawings.

OSDT Features

1. Enables quick and easy sketching & lettering on paper or whiteboard;

2. Sketches are two-tone, monochrome;

3. A hand-held marker allows sketching and lettering on paper or whiteboard.

4. Means are provided to capture the sketches and letting

5. Marker parameters like shape, size and orientation can be controlled through grip of holding and pressure of sketching and change of orientation. They may vary



dynamically as user sketches. There should be no need for explicit setting / selection;

6. The second end of sketching device may be used as eraser. It has similar parameters as the sketching device. Bulk and fine erasing should be possible;

7. The sketches should be dynamically converted into high quality drawings, editable on the system; It should be possible to use the marker and eraser device for editing drawings also but other means may also be used;

8. The system must provide standard font selection, color palette, spelling and grammar check, auto completion, themes and effects.

9. Should be compatible with popular operating systems

10. Devices should be easy to plug into any desktop, laptop or mac –USB

11. The user must be able to rapidly switch between

A: Sketching / erasing on paper / board and

B: Editing the sketches on a desktop, laptop or mac.

There should be no need for special training or experience to use OSDT.



Project Scope

The marking, erasing devices and

graphics capture devices should be

simple and easy to set up and use.

Monochrome two-tone input is

sufficient; No need for multicolor

multi-tone input now.

Essential delay (max 3 seconds)

between sketching and conversion

is acceptable.

If special cues for conversion are

necessary they may be suggested.

Cost: around USD 50.

Deliverable

During the course of this project

the following must be created and

submitted for approval.

1. Multiple OSDT Proposals &

mock-ups,

2. System Capability Specification

(that is good old SRS but SCS

is more apt), and

3. Prototypes of devices and

software
