Challenges of Anywhere Access: Many of our employees work at customer sites: Many consultants work for 3 months or more on a project with the customer at the customer’s location. Because they are offsite, it is imperative that they have the capacity to be in touch with their information and the office using the mobile devices they have, whether it’s a smartphone or tablet. Maybe they need to discuss customer issues with someone back at the office. Maybe they need a technical consultant or need to check with a project leader. Maybe they need access to a particular document or template. To successfully complete any of these interactions typically requires IT setting up some type of infrastructure access or VPN. Our employees travel a lot and they can use the time to work, if they have access to the information: There are no surprises here. A lot of the professionals in our industry do their work on the road, at customer sites, almost anywhere except the office. Lacking access to their information when they’re on the go makes them less productive and in many ways, can make them appear less knowledgeable in their client’s eyes. “We don´t see each other very often.” Challenges of Working Together: We don’t see each other very often: Having the majority of the workforce out in the field makes it that much harder to stay in touch with one another. If they are not using the same set of tools, remote workers will have trouble connecting and collaborating with everyone else, thus causing inefficiency and lost productivity. As a result, Pro Services organizations want to have tools in place that enable people to work together from different locations at any given time. This includes accessing the same materials, controlling versions, and having IM conversations. Even if they are using the same tools, if the tools themselves are not built to work natively with each other, i.e. using separate point solutions for email, collaboration, instant messaging (IM), or conferencing, you are not maximizing your people’s time, causing end user frustration and IT resources to build that integration. Our business is our Know-How: If a company’s success lies in what the business has to offer, then it would naturally seem important to have access to all aspects of the business, such as the aforementioned templates. Regulatory demands can change those templates at any time which can result in someone working with an out-of-date template which ultimately could put the company at risk. This can also apply to proof of concepts and PowerPoint templates as well. All employees need to have confidence that what they are using are the latest versions, so that it becomes a non-issue and they can focus on the task at hand.
