ESL Commando English “Noun Clause Partner Practice” Mission: Students will be able to use noun clauses in both quoted and reported speech. This activity assumes that you have already begun teaching noun clauses. It can be done with any sentences, but be sure to mix it up, using modals, past forms, future forms, facts, etc. in order to give students practice with all of the problems that arise when using quoted and reported speech. 1. “Noun Clause Partner Practice”

Mission: Students will be able to use noun clauses in both quoted and reported speech.

Quoted vs. Reported SpeechDirections: You must go to your fellow classmates and ask them the questions below. Your first question will be written as quoted speech, and your second sentence will be written as reported speech.

Example:

I asked Joe, “What is your favorite food?” He told me that his favorite food was pizza.

Find 4 classmates to ask one of each of these questions:

“How many brothers and sisters do you have?”

“What major are you going to study in college?”

“Can you play any instruments?”

“Do you have any special talents?”
