Preterite “Y” Verbs
-ER and -IR verbs whose stem stem ends in a VOWEL will have a spelling change in the 3rd person preterite, or the “sandalia” 3rd line in the chart. The other forms (yo, nosotros, tú, vosotros) will do what they normally do, except they need an ACCENT mark to keep the stem and the ending separate. The I Y in the 3rd person. This does not affect the pronunciation, so it is just a spelling change.

Seguir = to follow /continue: This works like any other “sandal” verb. We consider gu to be one consonante for this. “U” is NOT
considered a vowel! We learned this in our “sandalia” notes.
