MY EVALUATION!PARIS WILLIAMS
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our music video did stick within the conventions of music videos even though it did not have a strict linear narrative.
The skeleton I drew in the history of music videos proves that we tried to create a text that at least could be warranted as a media selling product.
Even though we did subvert many things within the creation of music videos we did engage the audience through conceptualism and montage.
Challenge
The female black artist. Gives a modern and youthful
reflection of physiological identities and how they are created and disposed.
Conform
Close ups of the main artist. De-saturation of colour. Rapid cutting. Effects which make the shots seem more
eerie and spooky. Montage and Conceptual shots. Non linear. Editing in time with the beat. Direct address. Distortion of time and equilibrium.
Develop We used a black young female as our main artist .
That's something quite different itself. She wasn't too sexual exposed or imposing as a personality.
Most music videos today are greatly based on iconography and trying to appeal to the mass audience but the Dubstep genre allowed us to strive for something different. Individuality.
Examples of our artists...
Examples of popular commercial artists...
A member of our target audience stated upon seeing the final product that:
‘I love it! Its so different but then its not! I wish I was in it man, its so cool.
Like you can see how the artist is there and the weird shots and all the sexual stuff but then again if it had
my touch I would have made it even more weird.

2.How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Anxiety
All images previously shown carry a sinister darkness through all of them in a way that almost pulls the audience into the moody and dark ambience of the Dubstep genre.
The Digipak and Advertisement are directly related by the graphical matching of the image of the girl used in both pieces. This is a very strong image and therefore gives the impression it is the essential look to the artist/band. Essentially, this is the band/artists personal branding image being established in a more commercial way than the video which seems more personal whereas the digipak is the song itself and the advertisement is used to sell.
3.What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
• It is important to address what the audience wants in order for the production team to create a product that will potentially sell. The more you relate to the audience the more it seems possible that the product will sell.
• It is also important to consider what the target audience would actually like when it comes to consumption because inevitably the audience will not purchase something the y do not want or like.
• The feedback we attained helped us to keep in touch with what our audience really wanted and not to create something that was so abstract and crazy that it became of no value.
• Feedback throughout the whole project allowed us to better all the products both technically and aesthetically without it I don't think I would be as successful as it has already become. The only way we could have improved it was with a music company’s funding and resources but this is not what Dubstep artists essentially use to promote themselves and so I think we also adhered to this individuality within the own Dubstep scene.
“Well its different obviously because there's a girl but yeah I like it”

I can see its not finished! But like its coming along well I really like some of the weird shots you do.

Lisa, 20
“You shouldn't keep some of those shots so dark sometimes it just makes me want to zone out”

4.How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Prezi•Intuitive and easy to use. It allowed power point sharing, file sharing, YouTube sharing ect.
•You can share your presentations across many Web.20 formats worldwide and like other programmes publishing work takes little than no time .
•My favourite function was the Path function which allowed you to become selective.
Slideshare
•Document sharing complete in almost 2 minutes. After it was done things seems effortless you could wait for your work to convert and finish another piece of work in the meantime.
•It was very useful and great for posting work straight from Microsoft Works/Office to the blog.
Wix
•A more advanced an trickier programme which takes longer to format and create.
•Once done it can create fabulous presentations and websites which directly engage your audience they can be accessed in many versatile ways such as a independent domain, embed, share on social networks or the website link provided free of charge.
Tube Chop•A new tool recently develop which allows you to ‘chop’ YouTube videos to select the parts you want.
•It seemed likes a great tool at first but then it became apparent that the embed code for the clip did not work with most other presentation formats such as Prezi or even Wix. This was frustrating and devalued the programme as a whole.
Prezentit
•Not as advanced as other programmes but it is still useful it seems to be more useful for note taking and scrapbooking as the animations are not that amazing but still is great for sharing information.
Microsoft Office PowerPoint
•Though limited in that it is hard to add images and videos in good quality it is great for the genuine sharing of information and showing a thought process in planning.
•It could be used on other online presentation formats and is recognised as a great starting point for educational projects.
Blogger
•The main place where all the work was uploaded. It was easy to use and reliable even when the website seemed to have been updated.
•It uploaded everything that a student could possibly want to throw at it and also allowed for versatility and personal organisation; albeit confusing at times.
CommunicationBBM: Blackberry Messenger. Real time conversation with others. Easy access and Broadcast and group chat functions which allowed for multi person chats.
Texting: Real time chat. For easy one to one communication with others.
Facebook: Constantly in use. Allows sharing of information over Web.20 over a broad format with videos, conversations, pictures and creating artist/fan relationships.
Technical EquipmentTool Picture Info
Panasonic HDC-SD80 Needed protection in the bad a lot as it was so small so it could easily be misplaced or stepped on or have the lens broken.
Velbon Tripod Was a little bit difficult to use as there is no spirit level but was sturdy and strong against the fragile camera.
Media Card Help a lot of information. We used about 3 so we didn't really check how much they did hold but it was clear that nothing could be done without a memory card!!!
