An image can not only be visual – it can also be mental.
When we view (or recollect) a place or event or thing, we form a mental image of it.
Learning with Media - Images
If you think of images as mental, then you have to consider that the viewer can influence his/her interpretation of the subject of the image.
Learning with Media - Images
Recollection of past events, places and things can be influenced by new information, thus possibly “altering” the image.
Learning with Media - Images
Think of how written or verbal information, instructions and knowledge are created.
Learning with Media - Images
Now think of how easily information, instructions and knowledge can be misinterpreted – because of the viewer/receiver’s context, history and perspective.
