Overview
Join us in this session to better understand the wireless networking requirements for mobile UC and best practices on
application level configuration.
• Mobile unified communication over Wi-Fi can:
– Impact the productivity for your end users in a big way
– Can enable chat, video conferencing, voice calling, file transfer, desktop sharing and web conferencing as part of a single mobile app• This reduces IT spending significantly
– The wireless network in place should understand all these different traffic flows, reporting on call quality, support high definition data transfer for video and more

Aruba at Lync Conference 2014
Sessions presented by:
Michael Tennefoss, VP Strategic Partnerships, and
Thenu Kittappa, Senior Manager Strategic Partnerships-UC SDN Task Group working on standardizing UC SDN scenarios and
certification and interoperability program
Aruba Networks: Can Your Network Walk The Walk And Talk The TalkLync 2013 hails the advent of the truly all-wireless enterprise in which the wired phone, birthed in the 19th century, is set aside in favor of mobile devices. In the mobile enterprise the demands on, and expectations of, the Wi-Fi infrastructure rise far above what’s needed for simple data access. End-to-end Quality-of-Service, BYOD on-boarding, application flow prioritization, and dynamic bandwidth management are essential. So is visibility into mobile applications, devices, and users. Six nines reliability requires proactive network management and speedy remediation of issues affecting voice and video quality. This presentation will discuss how the new Lync SDN API brings end-to-end visibility to calls in flight, root-cause problem identification, application usage, device performance, and user behavior. Acknowledging that many potential Lync 2013 prospects may not be mobility-ready, the presentation will also discuss the role and importance of a Lync Mobility Readiness Assessment.
Software Defined Networking: Wi-Fi and Lync Wi-Fi presents unique challenges to Unified Communications. In this session we will explore how Software Defined Networking (SDN) can be used with Lync specifically to address the common Wi-Fi deployment issues. Together with Aruba Networks we will showcase how SDN technologies can be leveraged to provide great quality for the mobile devices and people in your enterprise

Challenges
• The demo gods are not always kind!• Varied use cases across the business
• To record or not to record• How long is long enough?
• Network issues cause 60-80% of poor end-user QoE• Poor Visibility into real-time traffic– Lync uses encryption by default, making DPI difficult and unreliable
– Skype tries to hide itself from networks
• Traffic engineering/ QoS is complex & easily broken– Requires brute force static policies that must match application server settings
– Intermittent problems are tedious to diagnosis, especially for Softphones and BYOD

Common Issues
• Client Issues– New skillset requiring user adoption and training
• Network- What can our network see?• Resource– Skillset, coverage
• New technology: SBC, PSTN carries and solution
• Budgeting & Reporting
• Call quality and drop issues
• Customer adoption and training
• Headsets
• True test of wire-equivalent Wi-Fi network

Lync Architecture Best Practices
• Server roles– Front End, Database, Monitoring, Archiving, Mediation,
Edge, & Persistent Chat
• Define business needs with respect to functionality, geography and resiliency
• Every site doesn’t necessarily need resiliency• Build Front end and Edge pools near high
concentrations of conferencing• Be cautious with virtualization• Don’t forget about the network!

SDN API
• What is it? – Toolset to allow network equipment to access detailed data
about the Lync platform
– Real time call data
– Adaptive, real time prioritization, and QoS
– Aruba is the only qualified solution to optimize Lync
• SDN brings together network infrastructure and unified communications– Lync server can now interact directly with network
infrastructure so QoS and services can be dynamically adjusted to always deliver the best possible experience

SDN API
QoS Includes:• Identification and prioritization of Lync traffic based on individual
voice, video, and desktop sharing traffic streams
• Traffic retagging ensures that over-the-air Lync traffic receives the right priority level even if the wired network infrastructure misprioritized or mistagged the traffic
• Lync-aware RF Management ensures that jitter and packet loss are not introduced by the Wi-Fi infrastructure
• Lync-aware roaming takes Lync call status into account when enforcing client roaming for sticky clients, part of a patented technology and Client Match
