Mobile Devices and Services allow individuals to Detect, Discover and Disclose

With sensors embedded in devices and in the surrounding environment, mobile devices can detect, interrogate and — with appropriate permissions and authorizations — connect to networked places, objects and even people in locations. Objects and devices may be networked locally, communicating with one another, or connected to wide-area networks and central servers in remote locations.

Once connected, individuals can use their mobile devices to learn about places, objects and people in the vicinity. In addition, individuals can also elect to view and receive offers from nearby businesses, advertisers and service providers.

If they so choose, individuals can disclose their location, identity, profile and other "social data" with businesses, service providers and other individuals — for example, by updating their status, including location, on Facebook; checking in with Foursquare, etc.
