Data, data, data…

•  Growth in data traffic –  mobile data traffic grew 2.6-fold in 2010 (tripling for 3rd year in a row) –  2010 mobile data (237 petabytes per month) was 3X of global internet in 2000 (75

petabytes per month)

•  Smartphones, tablets, and laptops are data hungry –  smartphone usage doubled in 2010 –  13% of global handsets, 78% of mobile handset traffic (3.3 MB/month)

–  3 million connected tablets in 2010 (405 MB/month) –  94 million connected laptops in 2010 (1.7 GB/month)

•  Video is the big consumer of data –  50 percent of mobile traffic for the first time in 2011

•  Connection speeds improve –  Mobile network connection speeds doubled in 2010 –  Download at 101 kbps in 2009 to 215 kbps in 2010

•  Data usage is democratized –  top 1% of mobile data subscribers generate over 20% of mobile data (30% year prior)
