What is Matter?

• Everything you can see, smell, or touch is Matter.

• Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass.

Three types of Matter

• Solid

• Liquid

• Gas

Solid

• Solids have a special size and shape.

• Example:A bowling ball is a solid. The particles of the ball are firmly held together.

Page 5: Matter

Liquid

• Liquids take the shape of the container that it is in.

• Example:Orange juice is a liquid. The particles of juice are loosely held together.

Page 6: Matter

Gas

• Gas does not have a color or shape.

• Example: Air being pumped into a ball is a gas. It’s tiny particles are not held together.
