Objective:

Update Massmart’s current systems to mimic Walmart’s systems Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) technology

Oracle Business Intelligence

CONSUMPTION DRIVEN PLANNING

Allow distribution centers (DCS’s) to update with store supplies daily instead of weekly, and interact with the suppliers

Supply source will track their own supplies on the shelf

Break into Regions with centralized distribution centers that have data centers for that regions data exchange

Database Platform: Oracle Exadata Database

Needed Technology: Smart Flash Cache

Smart Scan

InfiniBand

Scale

Out Storage

I/O Resource Management

ExaLogic-Sparc

SuperCluster

Chosen because its pre-configured and easily executed. Also Oracle and Cisco have international presence

African Region Breakdown

Region Definition:

Region 1: Nambibia, Lesotho, SwazilandRegion 2: Mauritius, Malawi, MocambiqueRegion 3: Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, BotswanaRegion 4: Nigeria and Ghana

Page 6: Massmart supply system upgrade

Network Configuration

Work with CISCO to set up networking between regions, stores, and suppliers, as well as communications back to the US.

Page 7: Massmart supply system upgrade

In Store Network Configuration

Use inputs from the scanners for inventory and cash register scanners to know what is on the shelf and what has exited the store.

Page 8: Massmart supply system upgrade

Supplier Interface

Update the databases nightly so that suppliers can know changes in a day to their shelf supplies.

This will illuminate when orders are needed to be filled quicker.

Also, it will show seasonal trends.

Project Plan

Network implementation and setting up Oracle servers will be done in a six month time frame from July until January 2015. Risk factors

Local integration in Africa

Dependencies on Oracle and Cisco for their local interactions in the project

Language barriers

Social barriers

Schedule

Reasoning for hiring Oracle and Cisco locally and involving local Massmart representatives.

Training

Team representatives will be on site during the project and during installations for the purpose of training Each region will be hiring an IT manager/engineer to govern the new

system and to maintain them.

Systems people will be needed at the store level and there must be open communications back to Walmart, Oracle, and Cisco

End User Training

Supply Chain Supervisors will be responsible for updating training for the end users

Reports will be tailored to the end customers needs

Page 12: Massmart supply system upgrade

Organizational Change

The purpose of this system is to make everyone upstream in the supply chain aware of the movement of inventory Less order mistakes due to more accurate data

Accurate projections

Cross docking

Quicker response to customer needs

Culturally, this will be a change and is the reasoning for involving Massmart in the changes.

The overall goal is to decrease mistakes and be more profitable which will benefit Massmart and Walmart.
