It is the story of a land where legends and history, magic and reality, truth and fiction plait.... In what measure, it is up to you to judge!
LUANA’S LAND
The Legend
"From the mists of times, elders tell the story of a wise king, descended from heaven in a chariot of fire. When
the king saw the unearthly beauty of the land he stayed to live amongst the natives. This king, An, then taught the locals the
secrets of agriculture, crafts, bodily and spiritual health. He built them a huge stronghold to protect them from the evil of
others, from the hardships of Mother Nature, and above the city he raised an eternally burning sun that spread the darkness
of the night and brought them light and knowledge.
But the heavenly secrets shared with the people aroused the anger of An's kind, up in the heavens....They asked
him to return amongst his own and to destroy everything he did for the humans. But An refused because he came to love and
appreciate the natives for their pure souls and kindness.
When the inhabitants of heaven learned of An's stubbornness they sent a large army to kill the king and ruin the
stronghold. Seeing the troubles brought upon An, the humans chose to stay by his side and hid from the fury of the enemies
behind the giant walls of the stronghold. But their defense was weak and they were overwhelmed in battle, for the army of
heaven had stronger weapons... In the moment when the fate of the battle was sealed and the enemies were about to win,
An gathered his people and sent them in the caves that linked the stronghold and the mountains, away from the disaster that
was about to come upon them. And then the wrath came...when the sun was taken down the earth crumbled and a blinding
light devastated the land-nothing was left of the city built by An.
The land was burnt a standing man deep, the waters dried up, the sky darkened and the sun was no longer
shining... For a very long time nothing being came close to the place where the stronghold once rose proud, not the animals
of the earth, not the birds of the sky, not plants nor humans. But amongst those who escaped the wrath of the enemies the
legend of the wise and kind An was kept alive, giving the name of the region where the city was: The Land of An, The Land
of Luana"
Another version of the legend says that An was actually a beautiful woman - Luana, descended from the
heavens in a chariot of fire who fell in love with a human and remained there to live amongst the people...the rest of the story
is similar to that of An…

motorbikes and ATVs took the start in Castrol Extreme Adventure or better said, in the fifth Romanian Extreme Adventure edition - the
extreme off-road week. For some of them it was pure adventure, yet, for many of the competitors it was the most difficult race of their career.

WETHER FORCAST
On the night of the new year, people must know how the weather will be. If you will be hit by
drought or floods will awaita year with abundant rainfall - that may be determined using the
so-called onion calendar. Take 12 onion (or nut shells in some areas), give each a name after
the months of the year, put on a layer of corn flour, in a dark place near the fireplace or window
and sprinkle a pinch of salt layer inside. Next morning you find out how the New Year will be,
month by months, after the amount of moisture in each onion shell.
Local Traditions
FUTURE HUSBAND
In the New Years Eve, in the dark, the young girls are counting a determined number of steps
(they choose a number) from the garden fencing, and put there a sign. In the morning they read
the description of the future husband after the consistence of the footprint. Thick ice means very
rich husband. The deepest trace is proportional to a very handsome guy. The next evening –
Saint Sylvester- they gather the waste in the room with the hands on the back, put the garbage
on the shovel and broom in the middle of the yard and then step on it. By the bark of the first
dogs they find out in which direction they will go after marriage.
