LOD2 Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data

LOD2 is a large-scale integrating project co-funded by the European Commission within the FP7 Information and Communication Technologies Work Programme. This 4-year project comprises leading Linked Open Data technology researchers, companies, and service providers. Coming from across 12 countries the partners are coordinated by the Agile Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web Research Group at the University of Leipzig, Germany.

LOD2 will integrate and syndicate Linked Data with existing large-scale applications. The project shows the benefits in the scenarios of Media and Publishing, Corporate Data intranets and eGovernment.

Loading CKAN LOD Datasets into Virtuoso and query as Linked Data

openlinklogo_wstrap_190x70.png This demonstration shows how the LOD2 Stack can be used for Loading CKAN Linked Open Data datasets which are part of the LOD2 Stack into the Virtuoso Quad Store resulting in the automatic deployment of the loaded datasets as Linked Data by the Virtuoso enabling them to be discovered, traversed and navigated using Linked Data tools.This demonstration show hwo the LOD2 Stack can be used for Loading CKAN Linked Open Data datasets that are part of the LOD2 Stack in the Virtuoso Quad Store resulting in the automatic deployment of the loaded datasets as Linked Data by the Virtuoso Face Browser service enabling it to be discovered, traversed and navigated used Linked Data tools.

The Steps:

Load the LOD2 Stack demo into a browser, http://ubuntu:8080/lod2demo

Using the Linked Data life cycle diagram indicate that Virtuoso mainly fulfils the roles of storage/query, extract & serach/browsing/exploitation

From extraction and loading menu select the Load RDF Data from CKAN item

From the datasets presented choose the ckan-dataset-lichfield-spending containing details of the recorded spending in Lichfield Council, and install

This will install the ckan-dataset-lichfield-spending dataset on the machine and automatically load the RDF data into Virtuoso using its bulk loading scripts

Go to the Configuration menu of the LOD Stack demo to set the default graph to be used during the demo, making it accessible to other tools of the stack

Go to the Virtuoso Facet Browser UI /FCT and use the Prescison Search & Find text search for entties contain the value Lichfield .

From the list of entties select the Garrick dataset

Click on on About link for Garrick to see original HTML page this entity is describing

Click on the for payment number Payment number 8730281 to see details of a payment associated with Garrick theatre

Click its about page to see orignal HTML page which should also reflect the same costs as on /FCT deccription page
