Social media are media designed to be disseminated through social

interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing

techniques. Social media supports the human need for social interaction,

using Internet- and web-based technologies to transform broadcast media

monologues (one to many) into social media dialogues (many to many). It

supports the democratization of knowledge and information, transforming

people from content consumers into content producers. Businesses also

refer to social media as user-generated content (UGC) or consumer-

generated media (CGM).

Social media can be said to have three components;

1.Concept (art, information, or meme).

2.Media (physical, electronic, or verbal).

3.Social interface (intimate direct, community engagement, social viral,

electronic broadcast or syndication, or other physical media such as

print).

Social Networking

Social Networking focuses on building online communities of people who

share interests and/or activities, or who are interested in exploring the

interests and activities of others. Most social network services are web based

and provide a variety of ways for users to interact, such as e-mail and instant

messaging services.

The main types of social networking services are those which contain

category divisions (such as former school-year or classmates), means to

connect with friends (usually with self-description pages) and a

recommendation system linked to trust. Popular methods now combine many

of these, with Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn widely used worldwide;

"You may not be surprised to learn that companies such as technology powerhouse Salesforce.com use social networking sites to search for job candidates, but even buttoned-down firms such as Allstate have gotten with the program. In fact, 40 percent of Fortune 100 companies use LinkedIn specifically for that purpose. That’s why it’s critical to have a profile on LinkedIn..." ~CBS MoneyWatch

How I Found My Dream Job Using LinkedIn, ForbesOct 7, 2009

"I conducted a LinkedIn search for the company and discovered that one of my former co-workers, a direct connection, was connected to someone there through previous work experience...""...As you can guess, since I wrote this article, the former co-worker graciously introduced me and even praised me (hallelujah!) to the person at my first-choice company. Two days later, I received a phone call inviting me to schedule an interview. A week and a half later, I was hired." ~Avril David, an energy and environment analyst for Project Performance Corporation (In Forbes)

A strong recommendation from your manager highlights your strengths and shows that you were a valued employee.

A recommendation from a co worker or former colleague is often easier than from management. Karma comes into play here, if you give a recommendation, your likely to receive in return.

Start NOW. Your community is waiting for what you can add. If you’re already building your connections, keep going. Try a new network. (more on that in the follow up workshop.)Remember the promise from those we seek counsel.The Lord loves the one who works.

“…winter will surely give way to the warmth and hope of a new spring.”~President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

“When our wagon gets stuck in the mud, God is much more likely to assist the man who gets out to push than the man who merely raises his voice in prayer—no matter how eloquent the oration. President Thomas S. Monson put it this way: “It is not enough to want to make the effort and to say we’ll make the effort. . . . It’s in the doing, not just the thinking, that we accomplish our goals. If we constantly put our goals off, we will never see them fulfilled.” ~President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid inclusion.

It’s how Google Ranks you!!

Kindness trumps greed: it asks for sharing. Kindness trumps fear: it calls forth gratefulness and love. Kindness trumps even stupidity, for with sharing and love, one learns.
