Unlike a "regular" blog a microblog is limited to publish short messages similar to text messages we know from mobile phones. The most well known microblog is Twitter.

• Transparent (everybody can see your tweets)• Very fast• Short response time• For free or relatively cheap• Multiplication effect (retweets)

• Tweet -> a tweet is an entry on twitter

• Follow -> to follow someone means that you subscribe to a user’s tweets

• Follower -> followers are people who subscribe to your tweets

• Following -> following shows the people you have subscribed to

• Hash-Tag -> a hash-tag is a keyword on Twitter, to define it as a keyword you use the # symbol

• Retweet -> a retweet is a reply to a tweet that includes the original tweet (multiplication of tweets) e.g. one of your followers reads your tweet, thinks it is interesting and retweets it. Now their followers can read your tweet.

• Twitter is all about followers and following

• You will get the messages of the people you follow and people who are following you will get your messages

You should get a lot of followers, but always try to keep the number of people you are following lower than the number of people that follow you.

• It is fine to tweet many times a day (more often than compared to Facebook)

• However, you should not follow numbers. If you have something to say then tweet, if not it is also ok to not tweet for a day

Vodafone UK: https://twitter.com/VodafoneUK Vodafone UK has the highest response rate to customer service queries via Twitter than any other brand in the world on the site. A Vodafone UK spokesman says its success can be tracked back to its strategy to primarily use Twitter as a customer service rather than marketing medium.

HubSpot: https://twitter.com/HubSpot The main reason for its success is the massive amount of content it produces, ranging from blog posts to white papers, so digital marketing folk see HubSpot as a valuable source of information. But it also gives its Social Media team freedom to tweet random questions and engage in conversations with people, giving the feed an injection of personality rather than just being a one-way marketing tool.

General Electric: https://twitter.com/generalelectric General Electric's focuses on technology and innovation rather than just pushing out sales messages, turning what could easily be a dull, corporate Facebook page into something genuinely interesting.Also, the social team do a good job of responding to other users and recently rewarded people who complimented the brand's new Agent Smith advert by sending them a Matrix-style photo of their avatar.
