Biological Leachate Treatment PlantEKO-GEA’s leachate plant provides a simple, economical biological solution to MSW leachate treatment.

• Produces effluent which meets EU discharge requirements for COD, BOD, and TSS (no additional WwT required!)• Requires no power (gravity , hydraulically fed – dependant on site gradient and preferences)• Employs novel technologies for filtration, biological nutrient/nitrate/phosphate reduction, and odour elimination• Provides a low-cost, innovative, GREEN solution to leachate treatment

EKO GEA Economizes :• Dramatically lowers leachate treatment costs• Eliminates transport with on-site, odour-free plant

• Eliminates fees to wastewater treatment works• Reduced energy usage – no aeration or O2 required

Anaerobic Digestion – ADEKO GEA’s superior bacterial culture mediaadditive feeds and protects bacteria in aunique manner, creating efficient biologicalnutrient reduction, reducing sludge quantitiesby 70% over other WwT technologies.

Metabolic decomposition is stimulated via thisbio-active additive, and decompositionefficiencies are dramatically increased whilstbeing stabilised by the protective qualities ofthe additive, even in the presence of hostileleachate toxins.

EKO GEA’s additive is currently being employedas a biological WwT in 90% of the conventionalWwTPs in the Republic of Slovenia and hasbeen endorsed by the The Institute for Waterof the Republic of Slovenia (IzVRS)

How it works: Anaerobic Digestion + Filtration + Ion-exchange

Enhanced FiltrationTuff bio-media is utilised in the bio-filter andoffers the following attributes:• Physical filtration capacity which exceeds thatof activated charcoal or other filtration media• Exponential surface area increases foranaerobic bacterial culture growth• Ion-exchange capacity for reduction ofphosphorous, nitrate, and heavy metals

Biological Ion-exchangeEKO GEA’s system provides 2 separate ion-exchange mechanisms, via the ion-exchangecapacities of both the bio-active additive andthe tuff bio-media.

Both are negatively charged and "offer"negative ions to cation (positively-charged)elements in the water (phosphates, nitrates, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide…). This ion-exchange capacity also results in ourproduct’s ability to block metals andeliminate odours.

EKO GEA is at the forefront of wastetreatment technology via the biological ion-exchange capacities of our products.

EKO GEA tuff is volcanic, natural stone which is chemically & biologically inert. It is 97% silica and is especially porous, lightweight, and robust. Due to its vulcanisation, it does not compress and acts to prevent clogging. Most importantly, it “shelters” bacteria and allows for exponential increases in numbers of “workers”.

Results:EKO GEA’s MSW leachate treatment plant will meet the following effluent parameters:

Advantages: Optional placement of the leachate treatment plant onsite within the MSW landfill property - effluent will be safe for release into drain water system or waterways, eliminating the need for piping or transporting leachate from landfill to WwT plants. Treatment provides full leachate treatment, not simply “pre-treatment” Low cost + Small footprint + Odour-free + GREEN
