Knowledge and Awareness (K&A) Overview

• This package will ensure that GWP will be a provider of

cutting-edge knowledge aimed at supporting the

application of IWRM for water security and climate

resilience.

• Capturing existing knowledge

• Facilitating the generation of new evidence-based

and local context-specific knowledge

• … to ensure that the network continues to support

countries and deliver on the implementation of WCP.

Types of Activities (K&A)

• Regions develop WCP communication strategies and

relate to other regional comms strategies

• Ensure Comms/KM capacity in regional secretariats

• Engage journalist networks and media (e.g., training,

participation in stakeholder workshops)

• Experts in RWP and CWPs (+strategic allies) support

development of knowledge products

• Build relationships with Parliamentarians and organise

Inter-Ministerial Roundtables

• Engage national CC negotiators to raise water’s profile

Capacity Development (CapDev) Overview

• This package will provide capacity for delivering all the

other work packages.

• Primary target: government planners across ministries

• Secondary target: GWP regional and national teams;

and other regional and national stakeholders such

regional economic communities (RECs), river basin

organisations (RBOs), development banks, non-

governmental organisations (NGOs), development

partners and academic institutions.

Overall Objective (CapDev)

• Institutions and stakeholders have enhanced

capacity development

• Ensure there is capacity in the countries to

develop no/low regret investments and integrate

these into national development planning

processes.

• Increase awareness and understanding of tools

that are used to develop these investments.

Types of Activities (CapDev)

• Consultant and regional teams work to identify needs

• Consultant working with CapNet (and other relevant

service providers) with input from regions develop

training material

• GWP Teams trained during the development of the

training materials – as piloting

• Regional Teams trained to cascade training into

countries

• Local experts provide on-the-job support to practitioners,

identifying and prioritising no/low regrets investments for

WCP

Indicator

Number of government institutions/other stakeholders with

demonstrably enhanced capacity to integrate water security and

climate change in the design and implementation of policies, plans &

projects

Results which demonstrate that capacity has been developed among staff of government

institutions/other stakeholders, i.e. results which show with a reasonable degree of

certainty that organisations have gained from (rather than simply been exposed to)

capacity building activities
