Client/Browser Technology

• Internet Explorer 7/8, Firefox and Safari are all supported.

• IE6 is not supported, so don’t defer that upgrade!

• Most other browsers are still supported for Internet configurations

• Office 2010 includes optimizations for the new platforms

• Offline Access– 2007: used Outlook 2007 and Groove

– SharePoint Workspace 2010 integrates offline documents and lists

Office Web Applications

• Core viewing and reasonable edit functions

• Ribbon “Fluent” UI

• IE 7/8, Firefox, Safari

• Word

• Excel

• PowerPoint

• OneNote

Mobility Clients

• Phone micro browsers

• Windows Mobile Workspace

• iPod / Mobile Safari for bigger screens

– What’s missing from the AppStore?

– SharePoint OWA is the only way to get Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on the iPod

Page 26: KMA SPTechCon Deck on Collaboration

Twitterhashtag: #sptechconTwitter hashtag:

Multiuser editing

• Excel in OWA, not client

• Word/PowerPoint on client only if file opened from a shared document library

• OneNote client or OWA

Collaboration Best Practices -Locations

• Where should we collaborate? • My Site is not “Our” Site• Shared Team sites offer a single place to collaborate with

multimodal access– Remote clients– Multibrowser– Social discovery

• Its SharePoint, (singular!) not ShareFuzzySetOfOverlappingLibrariesAndSites!

• Go beyond the firewall! Extranet with claims authentication to combine FBA and Windows Logins

Twitterhashtag: #sptechconTwitter hashtag:

Collaboration Best Practices - Usage

• Asynchronous - Use the Feedback Workflow (2007 Aggregated Workflow SC Features)

• Synchronous – Use Multiedit/Multiedit View for Decentralized Workers

• Use Tags for Categories • Use Versioning for

Versions

Collaboration Best Practices -Messaging

• Every time someone emails a document from a SharePoint library, God kills a tree!

• Email a link instead!

• (Apologies to Todd Klindt and Shane Young)
