It’s hard to believe that this August will mark the 20th
anniversary of Hurricane Andrew and the 8th anniver-
sary of Hurricane Charley. Both of these storms devas-
tated parts of Florida. We were hit hard by Hurricane
Charley with over 2 million dollars in damage right
here on our leasehold. The destructive effects of Char-
ley have forever changed the way we prepare for and
“weather” storms.
In the event that a named storm threatens Central Flor-
ida, please remember that if you are a tie down or
shade hangar customer and you would like to have
your aircraft secured in an enclosed hangar for the
storm, you will need to fill out our special Hurricane
Hangar Agreement. Space is available on a first-come-
first-serve basis and a minimum of 2 nights commit-
ment is required. This enables us to stack hangars
more tightly than usual to accommodate additional
aircraft...a process that takes a long time to assemble and dismantle safely.
If there’s anything good about a hurricane, it’s that you usually know when one is
headed your way. Summer time thunderstorms are a different story. They can
pop up with little or no notice. As we say, “There’s a first lightning strike in every
thunderstorm!” During the summer months, we closely monitor the weather for
potential storm development. We work extra hard to get returning aircraft tied
down or put away as quickly as possible so we can avoid a rush in the event of a
storm. Customers can help us stay on top of things by alerting us via phone or
radio of your return.
Please remember that if lightning is judged by a
Showalter employee to be within 5 miles of the air-
port, we will suspend ramp services to keep our peo-
ple safe. If a request for services is called in just
before a storm hits we may not have enough time to
safely secure your aircraft before our people are
called inside. If you request services during or just
after a storm, please know that we will prioritize
your request and complete it as soon as it is safe.
Please let us know if you see hazards on our leasehold like loose objects, old tie
down ropes, etc., so we can rectify things quickly. We appreciate your help pro-
tecting lives and property during a storm!

Lodi’s Lowdown
Lodi’s Lowdown for the month of May was correctly answered by Nicholas Musashe, Dave
Gardner, Mary Maher and Michael Reale. The Space Shuttle Discovery flew 39 missions and
spent a total of 365 days in space. Thanks for answering!
The question for June is:
During the Space Shuttle program, how many times were there
shuttles on both launch pads at the same time?
Please email your answers to [email protected].

Thanks to all of our Based Customers
and friends for coming out to cele-
brate Cinco de Flyo on May 5th! We
had a great time enjoying food from
Tijuana Flats and delicious snow cones
from SweetLife Italian Ice Co. (mango
and pina colada were the favorites).
The spot landing and flour drop com-
petitions were a great success as well.
Flight Training Professionals clinched
the victories with student Jonathan
winning the
flour drop and

Maggie stick-
ing her land-
ing on the line
in the spot
landing. Way
