Why?I would like to use this song as a potential for my eventual music video because I like the tempo and soft, calm feel to it. It isn’t rushed, yet reaches a climax high enough to include faster paced editing without breaking the nature of the song. John Mayors version is a cover of the original, created by Tom Petty. John Mayor has changed the dynamics of the song, and I feel his cover has a more ‘pop’ genre style to it. After watching Tom Petty’s video, I will use some of his styled shots to keep some of the authenticity of it.Furthermore, I feel the style of this song suits my location of the countryside, and this is reflected in the acoustic sound of the song.

The intro.About 20 secs longAcousticI would like to use the location of a field, using a soft style of dance for the intro, which then returns in various places throughout the song, when the lyrics begin I will then cut to a narrative, of following one girl which the audience will have the main connection too.

Verse 1She's a good girl, loves her mamaLoves Jesus and America, tooShe's a good girl, crazy 'bout ElvisLoves horses and her boyfriend, too

It's a long day living in resedaThere's a freeway runnin' through the yardI'm a bad boy 'cause I don't even miss herI'm a bad boy for breaking her heart

I will use mainly close-up shots, using very rural locations and high key natural lighting to reflect the nature of the song. I would also like to capture some nature shots during the first verse, to show the sensitivity of life. This will use Todorovs, ‘equilibrium’ structure.

ChorusAnd I'm free, free fallin', fallin'And I'm free, free fallin', fallin‘

At this point during all the choruses, I will cut back to my dancer then back to the narrative structure. The narrative will include activities, this will make visuals more interesting, and it is at this chorus where – if I have two people present – will introduce another person into the video. I feel this will make it more interesting for the audience. (This could unintentionally introduce Propps theory, and create an enigma code from Barthes theory).

Verse 2All the vampires walkin' through the valleyThey move west down Ventura boulevardAnd all the bad boys are standing in the shadowsAnd the good girls are home with broken hearts

At this moment I will create a link between the visuals and lyrics. Using low angled shots, and different locations. I intend to use a sunset/sunrise/starry sky shot at some point (or continually) during the video as I feel it will create a soothing effect which will reflect the song.

Verse 3I wanna glide down over MulhollandI wanna write her name in the skyI wanna free fall out into nothin'I'm gonna leave this world for a while

At this point I would like to test out some different editing techniques during post-production, using pragmatics to convey various meanings to the audience through this. I will use fades and perhaps a montage to do this. (during this verse I will use a night sky, to do this I will leave a camera on for a substantial amount of time to gather enough footage then speed it up during editing, or film over a number of evenings).

TheoristsI feel using this song will give me more opportunity to use theorists views on narrative, and on genre. I will be able to use Barthes theory to a full extent, included hidden meanings and enigmas.I feel the use of dance will heighten the narrative, as a lot of meaning a purpose can be conveyed this way – this will also conform to pop genre music video conventions.
