CADMIUM SUPPORT IS NON-EU AND INSTEADY DECLINE

WHAT ARE THE FACTS?

Cadmium is an acute and chronic toxic and carcinogenic heavymetal. Due to its toxicity, RoHS l imits for Cadmium are 1/10th ofMercury.

Cadmium Quantum Dots (QDs) is an outdated colour technology targetedat displays and lighting. It has been surpassed by many sustainable, safeand effective, readily available colour enhancing technologies.

Of the 5 industry supporters of Cadmium (per Oeko submissions), only 2US companies remain in operation today.

The same companies market RoHS-compliant cadmium “l ight” andcadmium-free QD products, so why pursue Cadmium?

Banned from most consumer products for many years, cadmium wasrecently reintroduced in a few Chinese-manufactured TV and monitorproducts. Left unchecked, the Cadmium lobby want to extend its use toother consumer products (e.g. tablets and cell phones).

AT STAKE: CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR CADMIUM NEGATESSUSTAINABLE, SAFE TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION.

WHAT’S THE ISSUE?The European Commission is recommending to prolong Cadmium’s usein display as an extended exemption under RoHS legislation (Exemption39) by at least 2 more years.

The existing exemption is over 7 years old – during this time, Cadmiumtechnology has failed because of its inherent chronic toxicology risk andbecause safer, more effective technologies are now in use worldwide.

Cadmium global ‘wide colour gamut’ WCG display market share

Sales of cadmium-free quantum dot displays outsold Cadmium displaysin 2016 (CFQD: 8,000,000 vs. Cadmium: 400,000)

EU MEPS AND CONSUMERS SAY NO TOCADMIUM'S DANGERS

In May 2015, MEPs voted to ban Cadmium in display and l ightingapplications.

of consumers were unaware of Cadmium as a toxic element andmaterial, according to a new survey. Cadmium-based products are noteven labelled for consumers!

of consumers, once educated, would choose to purchase aCadmium-free product , according to the survey.

CADMIUM-FREE TECHNOLOGY IS WIDELYAVAILABLE

There are over 50 suppliers of Cadmium-free colour enhancingtechnologies.

Cadmium-free quantum dot technology products are available fromSamsung, LG, Nanosys, Nanoco, & Najing Technologies.

CADMIUM FREE QUANTUM DOT DISPLAYSHAVE SUPERIOR COLOUR PERFORMANCEAND ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Colour performance exceeds the latest TV industry standards and leadsthe market for high colour TVs.

Reduced power consumption vs. conventional LED displays andcommercially-available Cadmium quantum dot displays, which are 30-150% higher in energy consumption than Cadmium-free!

Energy efficiency continues to advance: Samsung’s Cadmium-free TVshave improved efficiency with each generation and achieve the highestA+ rating.

What EXACTLY is the reason for the European Commission to considerallowing toxic Cadmium in TVs for at least another 2 years?

Don't put consumers at unnecessary risk. Safe and sustainablealternatives are available today.

EU leadership has an obligation to protect consumers and stop atoxic legacy. It's time to eliminate dangerous Cadmium.
