IoT  is  in  it‘s  infancy  –    but  already  highly  complex

Blockchains:  Non-‐technical  perspec@ve

The  blockchain  lets  people  who  have  no  par3cular  confidence  in  each  other  collaborate  without  having  to  go  through  a  neutral  central  authority.  Simply  put,  it  is  a  machine  for  crea3ng  trust.

Security  is  a  main  challenge  in  IoT  –  that  has  driven  interest  in  blockchain  technology

The  bunch  of  (non  financial)  blockchain  startups  are  another  indicator  concerning  the  assumed  poten@al  of  the  blockchain.

Background  The  Connected  Reality  2025  report  has  been  published  in  2014  (Z_punkt  GmbH).  Five  key  innova3on  fields  have  been  iden3fied  to  understand  IoT  in  the  broader  context  of  other  technological  developments.  Maybe  a  sixth  innova3on  field  with  IoT  affinity  has  emerged  since  then.  It  has  to  be  explored  what  is  relevant  in  the  emerging  intersec3on  of  IoT  and  blockchain  technology.*

*  I  have  been  co-‐author  of  the  report.  Opinions  are  my  own.
