Overview We will be learning:

1. What is a tablet? Tablets look and function like large smart

phones Controlled using a touch screen They are very portable and light

2. What can you do with a tablet? Much like computers you can install

programs on them These are called apps, short for applications

3. Common Tablet FeaturesThe two most used are Apple and Android Operate similarly however templates are slightly

different Both have icons you can click to open a program

or “app”. They have: ‘Status Bar’ (time, battery and

connections display) at the top and a ‘Dock’ (most used apps)at the bottom.

4. How to turn on/off a tabletTablets have a power button on the top or side: Hold down to turn on Hold down to turn off (list of options will

appear)

5. How to work a touch screenMost tablets don’t come with keyboards or mice

Instead they operate by touch Touch works like clicks of a mouse on a

computer If you need to type, a keyboard with appear

on screen You will have to get comfortable with

certain gestures to zoom in, scroll, open and close applications, etc.

How to work a touch screen: gestures

Drag – move icons, photos, etc. Flick – zoome out to see larger text or imageTap – select something on a screenTap and hold – aces hidden options (like right-click on a mouse)Nudge – fine movement of an object, selecting and deselecting objectsPinch and Spread (Double Tap too)– zoom in and zoom out Slide - move your screen in all directions, scroll up and down, left and right
