What is OpenStack

Open source cloud computing platform OpenStack is the largest open source project in the world RackSpace acquired a company SliceHost they were working on way to

automate the build out of cloud resources NASA scientist developed a technology called Nova that could spin up

virtualized servers and make them available The two companies merged the two projects and created OpenStack in

2010 OpenStack is written in Python

Why is OpenStack a big deal?

OpenStack is a cloud platform that is technology agnostic It allows open source technologies as well as proprietary technology

solutions to be plugged into the various services that make it up Its openness simplifies the process of building IaaS Private Clouds,

Public Clouds and Hybrid Clouds Rapid release cycle new release every 6 months

Packstack – all the openstack compenents in a simple single server installation devstack.org – similar to packstack a single server installation of OpenStack ebay.com – devstack and packstack are great but to get proficient at setting up

OpenStack from scratch you will need two physical servers. Selllers on ebay sell used servers for less than $130.
